More changes and how to use them to your advantage.
Hello all! I have a sleeping baby next to me and I can’t stop staring at him! I’m thankful for those typing classes back in middle school so I can type without looking at the keyboard. Thanks Mavis Beacon! And I’m only partially kidding.
Today’s topic – 2 new Pinterest changes
Do you cringe when you hear that Pinterest has changed AGAIN? I know I do! Ever since they changed their algorithm last year we all seem to be a little on edge. WHAT NOW. That’s my first thought. Yours too? The good news is that these new changes are horrible. They are just.. well, new.
The most recent change is the new group messaging feature. (Over to the left in the picture.) Straight from Pinterest:
” We’ve introduced a new feature that allows you to easily collaborate with other Pinners on group boards. With this change, anytime you save a Pin to a group board that Pin will also be sent in a message to the other collaborators on the board. The goal of this is to inspire you to easily share and talk about your ideas.
This feature is only for new group boards with 20 or fewer collaborators. You will see a chat icon on the top your group boards that allows you to easily talk with everyone on the board.
Right now, there isn’t a way to turn off this feature but you can leave the group board and you’ll no longer receive group chats or if you’re the creator of the board you can block people you don’t want on the board.”
So you will get group messages from your smaller boards now. Ones with 20 or less collabs. And I kind of like this feature to be honest. My smaller boards tend to be my better performing boards so yes, I’d love to know what others are pinning. It makes it easier to repin and stay up to date with content changes. The down side is that the messenger may go nuts on your phone if you are on too many boards. In that case, it may be time to evaluate your group boards and pick a few to leave. (And HEY, I offer that service with any paid pinning package. Shameless plug, I know!)
The second change happened earlier this month and that is the new cover photos. (The second arrow in the picture.) And this one I dislike aesthetically but I like the theory behind it. The theory behind the new cover photos is that it lets people get a quick glimpse into what you are pinning by showing your most recent pins. So, in theory, people will check out your profile and click follow on boards that they are interested in. I’m not sure if that’s how it works with people, but it’s a good idea.
The reason I dislike this (and many people agree) is it looks like a hodge podge! All these pins and no sort of order. It’s overwhelming. You CAN change the top image but the others are random based on what you pinned recently. The plus is that if you have the time and gumption you can make it look pretty cool.
